About Warradale (SA 5046)

Warradale's name, deriving from Warra, an Aboriginal word for timber, has an interesting origin. It is located in the south western part of Adelaide and serviced by a train station and several main roads. Some parts of Warradale lie within the Brighton High School zone and other parts in Seaview High and Hamilton High's zones. Hamilton's zone North of railway line: odd numbers on Sixth Avenue, Brighton's zone: even numbers of Sixth Avenue, Seaview High has the remainder of the suburb.

When three residents of Oaklands applied for a post office in January 1917, the postal authorities pointed out that the use of the name Oaklands was likely to be confused with both Oaklands on Yorke Peninsula and in New South Wales. The name Warradale was then submitted by local residents and accepted by the PMG Department, (but not so agreeably by the Council)
